Colourflair & Personal Colour Analysis In 1928 a Swiss artist of the Bauhaus School, Johannes Itten, observed a relationship between colour preference, personality and appearance. He noticed that his students did their best work using colours they had chosen themselves. As his comments and photographs in his book ''The Art Of Colour'' reveal, there was a strong relationship between the way a student looked, their personality and the colours they liked to work with. At this time, many people were doing exciting work with colour and the next development of which we are aware, came in the 1930's, when an American, Robert Dorr, classified colours into cool and warm. He later went on to found the ''Color Key Corporation of America'' where, since 1941, his discoveries about colour harmony have been in constant use in clothing, cosmetics, paints, fabric and interior design. As people worked with the Color Key system, it became obvious that skin tone had more than two basic divisions. Colour was broken down further into the FOUR NATURAL HARMONIES and the ''Seasons'' concept was born. One of the most notable was the work of an artist called Suzanne Caygill, who used paints to reproduce a client's exact skin tone and palette of colours. For some time the art of discovering a person's Season tended to be a closely guarded secret. Then, the very experienced American Consultant, Bernice Kentner, published her book ''COLOR ME A SEASON'' in 1978. There are now a number of different systems for defining colour for the individual person. The distinctive Colourflair method, relates colour to SKIN TONE; to ensure the client looks their best, to PERSONALITY; so the clients deepest feelings about colour are met and understood and to COLOUR HARMONY; to ensure that an effective, co-ordinating wardrobe can be built around the client's personal best colours. In 1982 Pat Scott Vincent, first learned about Personal Colour Analysis and began to use and develop the concept herself. This led to the successful completion of a Bernice Kentner course in 1984. In August of that year, Colourflair was launched and opened a Studio in the town centre of Brighton. The range of services offered now, include training and advice on Style & Image, Cosmetics, Skincare and Corporate Work, in addition to personal colour and style consultations. Colourflair also supplies a wide range of personal colour fans, style aids, cosmetics and skincare to clients and the trade. Back in 1985, the original COLOURFLAIR COURSE was conceived by Pat Scott Vincent, as a means of making Personal Colour Analysis more widely available in the UK Pat's own experience made her deeply aware of the challenges faced by many women at home with young children in their desire for an income of their own. With this in mind, she designed a course that not only offered professional tuition in a unique way but catered for the needs of those with family or business commitments. There were also no time restrictions, as women often found their own plans put on hold while they dealt with family needs. Because of the genetic aspects of our consultation and many years of statistics, all the courses are available as Distance Learning correspondence courses, at a substantial cost saving Since those early days women (and men) from all walks of life and in all age groups have taken up this lovely career. One consultant started at the age of 61 ("I hope I am not too old") became very successful and reluctantly retired at the age of 68 to travel round the world with her husband. Actually, maturity is a benefit not a disadvantage. The flexibility of colour, style and image consultant training has meant that many people have been able to develop a career and income of their own, while doing something emotionally rewarding. |
